In the last decade, several new materials and methods for anticorrosive protection of underground pipe-lines (used for natural gas or oil transport) were developed, substituting classical bituminous protection. The new materials are consisting of elastomeric or polyethylenic based tapes, their main advantage being that they don't need heating during application; the adhesion Is provided by an appropiate primer, easy to apply. Four main categories of such modern materials were tested by the authors, the results being reported in this paper. The physical, mechanical and chemical performances for the tested materials are demonstrat to be substantially improved by comparison with classical protections. In addition, their measured electrical parameters were located between the standard limits established by international norms.
