Fuel efficient drives in combination with lightweight vehicle construction can result in a higher level of vibration. To ensure that comfort levels continue to be competitive, new kinds of mounting methods are needed. The underlying principle and the system configuration of an active engine mount for a passenger car will be explained. The talk will focus on various active engine mount design types. Different design variants for the integration of actuators in an engine mount will be presented, as will the advantages and disadvantages of the respective actuator technologies coming into consideration for an application. The findings of lab tests with active mounts and vehicle tests with active systems of various configurations will be covered.
