The role of the Air Freight Transportation Industry in the Korean national economy: An input-output analysis

The air freight transportation industry has played an important role in thernKorean economy. The Korean air freight transportation industry is faced with a period forrntransforming it competitively and efficiently in this global age. This study, therefore, aimsrnto identify the impact on the air freight transportation industry in the Korean nationalrneconomy. Hence, this study provides policy-makers with accessible and reliablerninformation regarding the role of the Korean air freight transportation industry. This studyrnemploys input-output (I-O) analysis to examine the role of the air freight transportationrnindustry in the national economy for the period 1995-2003, with specific application tornKorea. This paper has two major goals: the impact of the air freight transportationrnindustry supply investment on individual sectors and products and obtaining a preliminaryrnindication of the role of the air logistics industry. This study pays particular attention to thernair freight transportation industry by taking the industry as exogenous and thenrninvestigating its economic impact. And then we present the results that addressrninter-industry linkage effects in 20 sectors, production-inducing effects, addedrnvalue-inducing effects, and supply-shortage effects of the air freight transportation industry.rnTherefore, potential uses of the results are illustrated from the perspective of policyrninstruments and some policy implications are discussed.
