The manufacturing and the recycling processes connected to industrial nickel cadmium batteries are strictly controlled. The use of batteries is "inert" from the environmental point of view. Industry arranges networks of collection points in order to further increase collection for true recycling treatment and to meet the future requirement of the EU legislation. The industrial NiCd's are to a large extent returned by the end-users but a portion of the collected batteries may still, quite legally, end up in landfills in stead of proper recycling plants.
