By coupling the heat transfer between grains, fluid and workpiece, a complex thermal model for deep grinding has been developed, which takes account of the inclined movement of heat source plane of grinding zone on the workpiece surface. The grinding zone temperatures under deep cut conditions (creep-feed and high efficiency deep grinding-HEDG) are calculated, it is found that the inclined angle of heat source plane has strong effects on the grinding temperature of HEDG, the temperature prediction with this new model gives good agreement with experimental measurements.
