In this paper, we will first estimate the uncertainty on remaining oil saturation S_oil during primary water flooding, since that is the maximum saturation that remains available for enhanced recovery through gas injection, and this number plays a critical role in the original decision on whether to even initiate a gas injection pilot project. We will then confirm the findings of reference 1, as to the final S_oil after gas injection, but will also look at the variations in S_oil uncertainty as the gas volume increases from initial breakthrough to final maximum saturation. The situations of gas displacing oil in an unswept reservoir, and gas replacing both oil and water in an already water-swept reservoir will be considered. rnPlanning and designing the gas injector and observer is a key for the gas pilot success. Results of two gas injection pilots is discussed.
