65PNdB Equal-noisiness Contour of Chinese Speakers

Along with the development of noise control technology, it was realized that when down to certain SPL, or when more low frequency energy predominates noise, the value of A weighted sound pressure level can’t represent human's subjective perception to noise. A preliminary investigation, exploring the concept of perceived noisiness in environmental noise evaluation, was carried out. 24 critical band white noises with different sound pressure level were used for sound samples. 20 Chinese young people volunteered as subjects. Both non-constant stimulus and constant stimulus method were used for subjective evaluation experiment. Therefore, the 65PNdB equal-noisiness contour of Chinese speakers was acquired. It shows that there was remarkable difference between Kryter's equal-noisiness contours and that of Chinese speakers: low and high frequency noise make Chinese speakers more annoyed; while they have more patience with intermediate frequency.
