High Luminance and High Luminous Efficacy White Color Flat Field Emission Lamps with Newly Developed Low Acceleration Voltage Phosphors

High luminance and high luminous efficacy white color flat field emission lamps (FELs) have been studied by the newly developed low acceleration voltage high luminance green phosphors, SrGa_2S_4:Eu, and blue phosphors, SrGa_2S_4.Ce, to realize high quality backlight unit and general lighting, and to avoid mercury. The SrGa_2S_4:Eu and SrGa2S4.Ce phosphors have demonstrated the luminance of 162,000 and 20,000 cd/m~2 at 5 kV acceleration voltage, which are more than 1.25 and 1.67 times higher than those of P22 green and blue phosphors, respectively. The FELs using SrGa_2S_4.Eu and SrGa_2S_4.Ce phosphors are expected as the mercury-free fluorescent lamps to practical use.
