A simulation program for wastewater coagulation was presented. The concept is based on defining three fractions of the added coagulant, which consist of those involved in particle and phosphate removal, and an inert fraction. The proportion between these fractions varies depending upon the wastewater composition, pH and coagulant type, making it necessary to build coefficients into the program using previous experimental results. The coagulation model is provided as a module for use in commercially available software for wastewater treatment processes. By selecting this option rather than developing independent software, it is possible to utilise the advanced and well-proven powerful features of the main program. The simulation model was calibrated at two medium-sized coagulation plants with successful results. On-line simulation is the next step to predict the optimal coagulant dosage.
