In order to improve the aggregating property of flocculants, inorganic polyaluminum was synthesized with organic polymer additives. Cationic, anionic and nonionic polymers were used. Various characteristics such as chemical speciation, charge transformation, surface adsorption, microscopic configuration, and coagulation of composite flocculants were examined and compared among the composites and PAC and among the composites themselves. The efficiency of composites was significantly higher than that of polyaluminum. The cationic polymers enhanced the charge neutralization power and the anionic polymer improved aggregation without noticeably decreasing the charge.
