Power outage induced by the flashovers of ice-covered insulators has been reported throughout China and other countries in recent decades even though many works has been done to study the mechanism of arc propagation along the ice surface and predict the flashover voltage.In order to clarify the features of the pre-flashover and predict ice flashover more accurately, the entire evolution of leakage current during the pre-flashover process of both AC long and short suspension insulator strings covered with ice were recorded and analyzed in this paper.
