The present invention relates to a method employing a tissue-directed ?13C, 13C-13C, 13C-15N or 13C-13C-15¿N isotopically enriched protein reagent as a diagnostic contrasting agent in magnetic resonance imaging to enhance the contrast of a targeted site in a mammalian tissue.
