Recent Techniques and Strategies for Improving Productivity of Senile Cashew Plantations

Cashew (Anacardium occidentale.L.), belongs to the family Anacardiaceae, a native of Brazil, introduced into India during 16th century. Now it occupies important commercial crop status of our country. India is the largest producer, processor, exporterand consumer of this crop in the world. In our country during the year 2004-05, cashew was grown in an area of 7.8 lakh hectares, with a production of 5.35 lakh ton (Anon 2005). Our country earned foreign exchange of Rs. 2515 crore during 2005-06 (Anon, 2006).
