An unusual gyprinid - Cyclocheilichthys apogon

Cyprinidae is a very large family composed of several hundred genera of freshwater fish. These genera are made up of over 2,000 species distributed throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, Central and Northern America and include all the Barb, Carp, Danio and Rasbora species so popular in the aquarium hobby. Over 200 of these species belong to the genus Barbus and many of these have made an appearance in the aquarium hobby. Along with these have come several of their relatives so close in appearance and manner that they have acquired the tag of Barb in the aquarium hobby. One such fish is Cyclocheillchthys apogon, better known in the trade and hobby as the Apogon Barb, although its correct common name is Skin-head Barb.
