Opencast mine slopes - Stability of slopes in opencast lignite mines. North Rhine-Westphalia

In North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW)> the authority in charge of mining supervision (Office of Mining) is the Arnsberg regional government's Department of Mining and Energy in NRW. Its specific tasks include the implementation of the operating-plan procedure in accordance with Germany's Federal Mining Act (BBergG) and the direct supervision of mine operators. High priority is accorded here to protection of the environment from the effects of mining, all the way to rehabilitation of the land affected by mining.
