According to Rudy Negenborn and Klaas Visser of the Department of Maritime & Transport Technology, self-navigating robotic shipping is the future. To prove it, later this year they plan to launch a fleet of vessels 30-60 centimetres in length on the pond outside 3mE and have them perform a series of complex manoeuvres: sailing in formation under the bridge, overtaking, crossing in front of each other and negotiating tricky port situations.
