ROLE OF INFECTION IN TUMOR CONTROL

Infectious organisms have been associated with the pathogenesis of various tumor types, including cervical carcinoma (human papillomavirus), equine sarcoid (bovine papillomavirus), liver tumors (hepatitis virus), nasopharyngeal carcinoma and Burkitt'slymphoma (Epstein-Barr virus), Kaposi's sarcoma (human herpesvirus 8), and various retrovirus-related hematological neoplasms. A much more interesting role of infection, especially bacteria, may involve a role in the control of neoplasia.
