Global warming caused by a large amount of greenhouse gas emissions has become the most important issue to our society. Urban transportation is the major source of the CO_2 emissions, and it is estimated that CO_2 emissions from urban transportation will continuously increase in the future. Therefore, in the context of the economic growth and the rapid motorization in China, it is important to reduce the urban CO_2 vehicle emissions. We chose Dongguan as a case study city, calculated the CO 2 emissions for urban commuting activities, established the Tobit model for the CO_2 emissions, analyzed the important characteristics of the high and low emitters, and proposed the strategies to improve the transit accessibility and levels of service. The results of this paper can be of great effects on reducing the urban CO_2 emissions, realizing the low carbon dioxide travel modes, and mitigating the global climate change.
