These membranes consist essentially of a polymeric material cast on a support, said material being chemically inert and accepted without any interference by living cells in contact with it, its structure exhibiting a complete impregnation neutrality at the same time in the case of the substances capable of exerting deactivating effects, static or mortal inhibitors and, in the case of the various molecules ensuring exchanges through it, its selectivity being exercised solely in respect of the size of the filtered particles in relation to the pore opening. The polymeric material is slightly hydrophobic, its resistance to strong and weak acids and bases is good at low and medium concentrations, at normal temperature, and it is compatible with most organic solvents, except for chlorinated or aprotic solvents which, at low temperature, are absorbed and cause swelling and, at high temperature, dissolve the polymer.
