To segment a selected region from a multi-dimensional dataset, a shape model representing the general outline of the selected region is set up along with an adaptive mesh representing an approximate contour of the region. The adaptive mesh is initialized on the basis of the shape model and deformed according to the shape model and feature information of the selected region. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) A data processor arranged to carry out a method of segmenting a selected region from a multi-dimensional dataset; ( A computer program including instructions to carry out a method of segmenting a selected region from a multi-dimensional dataset.
