The influence of the component ratio (0-100 percent) in Ti-Ni powder mixtures on the shrinkage of pressings during solid- and liquid-phase sintering is investigated. It has been suggested that the dependence of the residual porosity on the concentration of the components for solid-phase sintering corresponds only to S- or V-shaped curves. It is shown here that the concentration dependence of the porosity of sintered Ti-Ni pressings is of S type and may be explained on the basis of the diffusional interaction of metals, by means of a multiparticle model of a two-component powder body.
