A field experiment was conducted at the C. R. Farm of Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, India during 2004-06, to develop an appropriate fodder production technology for prolonged fodder availability under semiarid rainfed conditions. The treatments consisted of six cropping systems, namely: subabul (Leucaena leucocephala) + Guinea grass (Panicum maximum) + sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) + pigeon pea (CS1); subabul + Guinea grass + cowpea + gram (Cicer arietinum) + linseed (CS2); subabul + Guinea grass + maize + cowpea (CS3); subabul + Pennisetum trispecific hybrid (TSH) + sorghum + pigeon pea (CS4); subabul + TSH + cowpea + gram + linseed (CS5); and subabul + TSH + maize + cowpea (CS6), and three nutrient sources, vi
