This paper briefly reviews the issues on the development, transfer and application of technology for the restoration and management of rangelands in India. In addition, the problem and policy issues in livestock production (regarding insufficient grasses and fodder crops) and poverty reduction are discussed. Finally, an anthropocentric framework is proposed where a synergy is required among policy, institutions, programmes and people in order to solve the problems in grassland management..
