The field experiment was conducted at NRCAF, Jhansi during three consecutive years of 1989-90 to 1991-92 to study the persistency and productivity of three hedgerows species, Leucaena leucocephala, Sesbania sesban and Cajanus cajan. Results revealed that there was no significant difference in the persistency of the three species upto one and half years but thereafter subabul recorded the highest persistency followed by sesbania and pigeonpea. In the third year of experimentation it was 96.2% in subabul, 61.6% in sesbania and 4.2% in pigeonpea. Cumulative values for the productivity indicated 1hat Leucaena recorded the maximum fresh biomass (485.6 q ha~(-1)), dry matter (161.9 q ha~(-1)) and crude protein (1327 kg ha~(-1)), which were markedly higher over rest of the hedgerow species. Similar trend was also observed for fuelwood and seed yields of hedgerows species.
