摘要

The field investigation was conducted during three consecutive years of 1989-90, 1990-91 and 1991-92 at NRCAF, Jhansi on a parwa (alfisol) soil, with a view to find out the appropriate dose of nitrogen for rainfed fodder sorghum under alley cropping system with or without the use of pruned foliage as green manure. Mean data over three years revealed that sorghum under pigeonpea alleys recorded higher growth, green forage, dry matter and crude protein yields than those intercropped with shevari or subabul alleys. Soil application of alleys prunings proved advantageous for forage production of sorghum alongwith the application of 45kg Nha~(-1). Successive doses of nitrogen improved growth attributes, forage and crude protein yields upto the highest level of 90 kg N ha~(-1) but neutral detergent fibre (NDF) content of forage sorghum remained unaffected due to any of the experimental variables in all the years.
