Observations on The Clumps of Dendrocalamus hamiltonii in Kolasib Division, Mizoram, India

摘要

This paper compares the clumps of Dendracalamus hamiltonii in forest and plantation sites and reports about the effects on the number of culms the girth, the height, the internode length and the production of new culms. The study area is located in Kolasib division in the state of Mizoram (India) with latitude of 14 deg to 24 deg 15 min N and longitude 92 deg 30 min E to 92 deg 45 min E. It occupies a total area of 1658 sq. km. with an altitude raging from 40 meters 1500 meters of sea level. The forest cover is both primary and secondary type, comprising tropical and subtropical type. Bamboo occupies the lower story in the climax stage in the riverside forest and depressions. In the degraded jhum land bamboo species emerge as a secondary crop. The most dominant and common bamboo species is Melocanna baccifera with a few clumps of B'ambus'a and Dendrocalamus species.
