摘要

The purpose of this experiment was to investigate whether the green culm of bamboo photosynthe-sizes or not. The rate of production of dissolved oxygen in a 4 cm long with 0.5 cm diameter bamboo culm was 14.3 mg/L for both exposures of 60 and 30 minutes; and the rate in a 4 cm long and 1.5 cm wide bamboo leaf was 8.1 mg/L in both exposures of 60 and 30 minutes. Similarly, the rate was 7.7 mg/L for a Maple branch 4 cm long with 0.5 cm diameter; and 7.9 mg/L for a Maple leaf 4 cm long and 1.5 cm wide.The Maple branch and leaf were exposed for 60 minutes. Not only did the bamboo (Bambusa tuldoides Ventricosa) culm produce oxygen but it also produced more dissolved oxygen than that of the bamboo leaves as well as Silver Maple (Acer saccarinum) branch and leaf.
