The price spread between ice free and ice affected ports remains very wide, due to freight differentials. Shipowners are very reluctant to go to Riga or St Petersburg at present due to heavy icing and cold weather there and charterers are having to pay premiums of at least $10pt over easier ports where they can find vessels. Loading of cargoes booked for February shipment is being delayed.
