摘要

An overview of recent advances in toolmaking for the injection moulding of nano-coated polymer glazing for the automotive sector by Dr Lee EJ Styger and Dr Kerry Kirwan. Novel toolmaking techniques, when combined with state-of-the-art 5-axis CNC machining and cutter tip technology, that is more typically associated with prismatic machining of aerospace components, have enabled viable and repeatable injection moulding tools to be manufactured for novel nano-coated polymer glazing panels for the automotive sector. Work to date indicates that these new toolmaking techniques can reduce toolmaking time, improve off machine surface finish and accuracy suitable for optical applications.
