DEVELOPMENT OF A RELIGOUSNESSAND SPIRITUALITY SCALE (ERE) FOR ADULT

Religiousness has been defined as a system of beliefs constituted by practices and rituals carried out to venerate a supreme being and as a frame of reference to interpret and to give sense to the events of life and to life itself. The present research had the objective to elaborate a scale that measures the spirituality and religiousness. As a base, three instruments were taken: 1) Brief scope of religious problems (Brief RCOPE); 2) Inventory of Beliefs System, and 3) Instrument of attitudes towards religiousness of university young people of Mexico City. The sample was composed of 210 persons-both genders. From a factorial analysis effectuated five components emerged: 1) religiousness; 2) institutional religiousness; 3) religious externality; 4) negative religiousness, and 5) social religious network. The five factors explained 66.8 % of the variance and have suitable indexes of reliability that oscillate between .64 and .96.
