STEHRING the kaiser: Double political standards on southern bluefin and whales

A column of personal opinion by one of Australia's leading fishing industry entrepreneurs Hagen Stehr Ao of Port Lincoln. Negativity at its best is counterproductive and in most instances damaging. Hopefully in the future we will develop some positivity and optimism between law makers in Canberra and the fishing industry. Unfortunately, the time has not yet come where all of us can look in the same direction and take the next step together. It is a flaw in management, but also industry itself is to blame. My column in the May edition of Ausmarine, "No Principles, Minister Rorting the System", was extremely close in its assessment, stating the bleeding obvious, but not well-received by some of the "no value" people in Canberra. Apparently to talk orwrite about the Japanese seems to be reserved exclusively to those who, under a delusion of grandeur, believe to have the God-given right to play moral and cultural police and slam the Japanese over their whaling tactics, but never consider what happened to southern bluefin tuna and the 10 billion dollar Japanese over-catches.
