WASHINGTON DC - For the first time, the Obama administration has concluded what many in the US aquaculture industry have believed all along: Marine aquaculture is needed to enable the domestic production of safe and sustainable seafood to meet growingdemand and lessen dependence on foreign imports. "They want it and that's good," said aquaculture lobbyist and attorney Richard Spees, of the law firm Akerman Senterfitt. "It's huge and really significant... because we didn't know what NOAA wanted. We would have been dead in the water if they came out and decided differently. Now we see they want it too."
