Dow to debut Bt soybeans in 3-5 years

Dow AgroSciences aims to introduce its genetically modified insect-resistant DAS81419 soybeans in Brazil and Argentina in the next three to five years. It is the first soybean line submitted for approvals that expresses two Bt proteins, the company points out. This will provide soybean growers with the broadest spectrum of control against lepidopteran pests and improved sustainability, Dow adds. The soybeans produce the Bt CrylAc and Cry IF toxins for the control of lepidopteran pests such as fall armyworms (Spodoptera frugiperda), soybean loopers (Pseudoplusia includes), velvetbean caterpillars (Anticarsia gemmatalis), soybean podworms (Helicoverpa gelotopoeon) and tobacco budworms (H virescens).
