Major agchem suppliers to invest in Brazil

The pesticide industry is expected to invest some $300 million in Brazil over the next five years, business newspaper Diario Comercio e Industria (DCI) reports. Despite Brazil becoming the largest national pesticide market, the country does not produce enough agrochemicals to cater for much of its own demand. Of the 280 active ingredients used in Brazil, a modest 30 are produced there. It imported more than a third of what its farmers used in 2012, bringing in almost 300,000 tonnes of ai (Agrow No 665, p 15).
