Natural products are of utmost importance in medicine and serve as valuable compounds for fundamental studies in chemical biology. Polyketides constitute a large and diverse class of natural products with often intriguing structural complexity and important bioactivities. They present significant high challenges for synthesis, and both synthetic and biosynthetic techniques have been applied for their preparation and derivatization.
