Benzothiazoles with a nitrogen substituent in the 2-position have frequently been used as core structures for the development of pharmaceutically important agents. Recent successful examples include the anti-HIV agent 1, the antibacterial compound 2,the PPAR agonist 3, the H3-receptor ligand 4, the nicotinic-acetylcholine-receptor ligand 5,and the phosphodiesterase 10 inhibitor 6 (Scheme 1).
