In order to investigate the effect of weld metals (LB 26, NB3N, and NC 39) on the corrosion rate of hot-dip aluminized steel in seawater, galvanic couples were subjected to immersion testing in artificial seawater. The galvanic couples consisted of three specimens (carbon steel, Fe-Al alloy, and weld metal) connected to one another by lead wires. It was found that carbon steel coupled to NC 39 had a lower corrosion rate than carbon steel coupled to NB 3 N or LB 26. Under galvanic coupling with LB 26, carbon steel suffered from corrosion, but Fe-Al alloy did not corrode.
