The irrigation engineering center project in Thailand, a model of technical cooperation in water management

The Irrigation Engineering Center (IEC) Project in Thailand (1985-1997) was a technical cooperation project between Thailand and Japan. The purpose was to improve irrigation water management technique within limited water resources in Thailand. UnderPhase I, begun in 1985 with completion of the IEC Bldg., technical cooperation activities were implemented in order to develop the ability to plan, design, and construct irrigation and drainage facilities. In Phase II, begun in 1990, the IEC project wasexpanded to establish maintenance and management of irrigation and drainage facilities. Through the project, a water management system for irrigation and drainage ha,, been established as one type of technical cooperation by the Government of Japan.
