Trans-scleral delivery of macromolecules

Diseases of the posterior eye segment (e.g., neovascular age-related macular degeneration [ARMD], diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, hereditary retinal degenerations, retinitis and posterior uveitis) are the main cause of visual impairment and represent a major challenge in ophthalmology. These pathologies are very frequent (from 4.8% for diabetic retinopathy to 12.3% for glaucoma, according to a 2002 WHO assessment [l]) and are expected to grow due to population aging and increasing diabetes prevalence.
