Gastric carcinoma is a common malignancy that results in significant morbidity and mortality. Despite developments in surgical techniques and adjuvant chemotherapy, a significant percentage of patients still experience tumor recurrence after undergoing surgery. This may be in the form of local recurrence, regional recurrence, peritoneal seeding, intestinal metastasis, urinary tract metastasis, and hematogenous metastasis. Knowledge of these recurrent patterns of gastric cancer can help in making an early diagnosis and in determining proper patient management. This article reviews important CT findings of recurrence following surgery for gastric carcinoma and discusses some practical issues and dilemmas.
