摘要

The present study determined the antioxidative activity of barakol, a chromone compound extracted from the leaves of Cassia siamea Lamk., using free radical scavenging assays and lipid peroxidation assay. The results demonstrated that barakol at the concentration of 200 μM, scavenged the superoxide radical generation by more than 90% on superoxide radical scavenging assay. At the concentration of 400 μM, barakol inhibited hydroxyl radical generation by 80%. In the lipid peroxidation assay, at the concentration of 100 μM, barakol showed potent inhibition of MDA formation by 95% in brain homogenates. In conclusion, barakol possesses scavenging free radicals and lipid peroxidation inhibition that may be due to the scavenging of the hydroxyl radical.
