Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups had cab changes in recent model years, and freshening is the order for the coming 2018 model year. Two-door Regular, and 4-door Double- and Crew Cab body styles are available with trim levels from Chevy's WT (for work truck) to its High Country and GMC's Denali. Though Chevrolet is still a consumer brand, it's emerging as the commercial truck division and GMC as the upscale name plate. Crew Cabs are preferred by two-thirds of retail buyers and half of commercial customers. GM's staying with steel for its cabs and beds, though it may be developing new materials. The 6-liter Vortec gasoline V-8 is replacing the discontinued 5.3 V-8, and will be available in "hardened" form, through Power Systems International, for burning natural gas and pro-pane. HD 2500 and 3500 pickups can be had with the Duramax 6.6-liter V-8 diesel and an Allison automatic transmission. The Colorado and Canyon midsize pickups have reawakened the small-truck segment, GM says. Electronic aids range from air bags and StabiliTrak electronic stability control for safety to wi-fi hotspots for convenience.
