The element concentrations in pine needles, seeds and seed wings from individual Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) trees from four different sites in Latvia were determined using two multielement analysis techniques. P, S, Ca, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Rb were determined by total-reflection X-ray fluorescence (TXRF). Cr, Co, Ni, Cd, Pb were measured by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS).Concentrations of the measured elements except Ca in Scots pine seed wings were smaller than those found in the needles and seeds. The relative differences of Mn, Rb, Co and Ni between needles, seeds and seed wings were similar in the four locations. Significant differences of Ca, Mn, Fe, Rb, Co, Ni concentrations in the seeds from different sample sites were observed. From elements considered as indicators of air pollution (Pb, Fe, Cu, Ni, Co), only elevated Ni and Co concentrations in pine needles could be attributed to local pollution sources.
