Process Redesign as an Intangible Benefit: Its Impact onInformation Technology (IT) Investment Decisions

Traditional cost/benefit analysis is used extensively byrnorganizations to compare alternatives and to make ITrninvestment decisions. The objective is to select thernproject that maximizes the net present value of all benefitsrnminus all costs. A major contribution of this study isrnexpected to be the discovery of intangible benefits that ITrninvestment decision-makers fail to include in theirrndecision processes. The impact of the intangible benefit ofrnprocess redesign is examined in the context of certainrnbenefit factors. Organizations that pay close attention tornthe identification and measurement of value derived fromrnIT investments (both tangible and intangible) are expectedrnto obtain greater productivity from those IT investmentsrnthat lead to business success.
