Elastic seismic modeling in carbonate rocks

We propose a numerical method to estimate compressional and shear velocities at the laboratory scale for porous rock samples. The methodology is based on a finite difference implementation of the elastic wave equation. Results from the numerical models were compared to velocities obtained experimentally by picking the first break in saturated rocks and by applying empirical and effective medium models.
