Phanerozoic Domains in a New International Tectonic Map of Europe

A new International Tectonic Map of Europe, scale 1:5.000.000, has been compiled by the Subcommission of Tectonic Maps of the Commission for the Geological Map of the World (CGMW). The Map is based on the materials (mostly regional drafts) provided by authors from most European countries. They were edited and put together by the Map's Editorial Board, Editors-in-chief V.E. Khain and Yu.G. Leonov, and the team from the Geological Institute and Commission for International Tectonic Maps of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Besides the European continent, the Map covers the territory of East Mediterranean countries, North Africa, North Atlantic and North European shelves. The compiled Map differs from previous editions not only in scale (two earlier editions have been compiled in scale l:2.50().000)but by a number of other modifications. The main of them are:
