    • 摘要: Seismic waveform modeling is one of the most powerful tools for understanding Earth's structure,since it allows waveforms to be quantitatively predicted using physical source representations and a velocity model.In the late 1960s,Don Helmberger developed the foundations of generalized ray theory(GRT)using the Cagniard-de Hoop method(Helmberger,1968).This advance ushered in a new era of computing synthetic seismograms at local to teleseismic distances in applications ranging from studying strong motions generated by earthquakes to modeling Earth’s interiors from basin to core.

    • 摘要: Fethiye is an important region located in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Basin.This region which is the most active part of the south-western Anatolia extensional tectonic regime,has been effected by earthquakes,submarine landslides and tsunamis throughout the history due to the existence of the complex active plate boundary zone.The active area has been exposed to ground motion that had the potential to damage vulnerable structures.Therefore,a detailed assessment of seismic hazard is necessary for the prevention of potential damage.In this context,probabilistic seismic hazard analysis is performed by R-CRISIS-18.3 using the refined parameters computed from Seismic Hazard Harmonization for Europe(SHARE)project.Spatial distribution of spectral acceleration at T=0.2 s and T=1.0 s for the earthquake levels that corresponds to the average return period of 72,475 and 2475 years is calculated.Hazard curves for the central region of Fethiye district are generated.The results are discussed and compared with the values obtained from the Revision of Turkish Seismic Hazard Map Project(UDAP-C-13-06).These local results of probabilistic seismic hazard analysis will provide the basis for the preparation of seismic risk maps as future work.

    • 摘要: In May 2021,multiple sequences of earthquakes struck western China.Among them,The M_(S) 6.4 Yangbi earthquake and the M_(W) 7.4 Madoi earthquake are the two most significant events.Especially,the Madoi earthquake is the largest earthquake in China after the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake.The two earthquakes have attracted broad concerns from both the public and the academic society(Liao et al.,2021,Zhang et al.,2022a).In this special issue,ERA compiled and published related research articles investigating timely advances of the two events.The special issue includes 7 papers,covering seismic observation,surface deformation investigation,seismic hazard survey,and geodynamical modeling.

    • 摘要: 1.Background on the seismic gap between the Wenchuan and the Lushan earthquakes The 2008 Mw7.9 Wenchuan earthquake and the 2013 Mw6.9 Lushan earthquake,which occurred in the Longmenshan fault system(hereafter called LMSFS),caused dramatically casualties and huge economic losses.Their aftershock zones outline a seismic gap of about 50 km(Figure 1).

    • 摘要: In 2018,the International Conference for the Decade Memory of the Wenchuan Earthquake in connection to the 4th International Conference on Continental Earthquakes(4th ICCE)and the 12th Assembly of Asian Seismological Commission(ASC)officially announced the establishment of China Seismic Experimental Site(CSES)in the Sichuan-Yunnan region.CSES focuses on the field experiments on a broad spectra of scientific problems in earthquake science,from the tectonics and physics of earthquakes and faulting to the engineering countermeasures for disaster risk reduction.In spring of 2021,approved by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China,CSES as a key state scientific infrastructure was enlisted in the 14th national five-year plan(2021–2025)of economic and social development and the long-term vision of 2035,which is considered as a major step for promoting earthquake science in China.Since 2018,the planning,construction and functioning of CSES have attracted much attention in earthquake science(CSES,2020a,b,c;Wu ZL et al.,2021a,b,c,d).This special issue of Earthquake Science,similar to other publications(e.g.,Li YG et al.,2021),reflects a profile of the on-going works of CSES,by CSES,and for CSES.Totally 8 articles are included in the present issue,covering some aspects of research scopes of CSES.
