A method and apparatus are provided for optimizing Monte Carlo simulations for scatter-reflection spectroscopy. A method to optimize MC simulation in DRS is to acquire Monte Carlo (MC) simulated DRS measurements using a predefined number of photons by a Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (DRS) assistant. ; preprocessing the MC simulated DRS measurements to obtain normalized DRS measurements; modifying the non-monotony of the normalized DRS measurement to obtain a monotonic DRS measurement; converting the monotonic DRS measurements into logarithmic domains to obtain logarithmic DRS measurements; performing curve fitting on logarithmic DRS measurements in the logarithmic domain; and transforming the curve-fitted logarithmic DRS measurement into a non-logarithmic domain to obtain an optimized MC simulated DRS measurement.
