Models for the optical stress analysis and demonstration of mechanical stresses in structural and constructional elements of structures and machines are to make possible optical stress examinations of prestressed structural and constructional elements, in which case the stresses caused by the load on the one hand and the stresses caused by the prestressing on the other hand can be examined and described individually as well as in their interaction, prestressing and loading being adjustable independently of one another. This is achieved here by a model body, which corresponds in its configuration to the structural or constructional element to be examined and which has at least one channel passing through it for accommodating prestressing elements, in combination with prestressing devices which act on the prestressing-element ends extending out of the model body and are supported on its end faces.
