The conditioning device comprises a plurality of connected treatment zones, each zone having an apertured base and member for supplying a fluidised gas through the apertured base to each zone to cause material therein to be fluidised. The device includes member for vibrating each apertured base and in that the zones are separated by movable partitions which are operable in conjunction with transfer means for urging material from one zone to an adjacent zone. The contents of a first treatment zone can be transferred to the adjacent zone after a desired treatment time in said first zone. The number of treatment zones are in the form of an elongated chamber comprising an apertured base having side wall defining a channel. Movable partitions in form of doors extend across channel.
